As the collapse of the hive accelerated, accurate information became harder to come by and one of the most valuable of the remaining currencies. The Arachnateks were being well supplied in this coin, their patron appearing to have an almost clairvoyant ability to predict the next catastrophe before it happened, allowing the ‘teks time to plan and react.
It seemed that one of their key rivals – the Reservoir Dames – was being supplied within similar information leading the gangs to clash over key remaining resources time and time again. Ulric decided enough was enough, time to disable the Dames. Scouting of their territory revealed a vox node on the edge of Escher territory that seemed to be particularly well guarded, given the apparent innocuous nature of the installation.
Ulric and his team planned a swift strike upon the node, planning to get in, destroy the equipment and get out before being discovered. Unfortunately all did not go to plan. An initial volley of Las fire from Stanley, the teams sniper, damaged the node, but failed to destroy it – but did succeed in altering the covert Escher guards, who charged on the ‘teks position. A second volley of plasma from Douglas succeeded in destroying the node, but by this point the Dames were upon them. Blasts of gas and shell blasting Sam from his grav cutter and injuring Douglas.
Ulric stood his ground, providing covering fire as the rest of his team limped out of the territory. Once the retreat of his gang was assured Ulric attempted to flee himself, only to catch a shotgun round, knocking him from his feet.
Explosions rocked the area as the node detonated, the distraction allowing Ulrics fellows to drag him from the area, avoiding any lasting injury. The ‘teks had not injured any of the Dames but had been successful in crippling their intel, and they would recover from their own wounds.
