Enjoy the peace while it lasts, scummers

23/06/44,265 ·

Greetings, fellow scummers. It’s your favorite columnist, Rico Storm, here to share my thoughts and opinions on the latest happenings in the Underhive.

As you may have heard, the Palanite Enforcers have claimed victory over a House Van Saar gang that was operating in the Drake Cluster. They say they have broken up and disbanded the gang, seizing their technology and weapons, and arresting or killing their members. They say they have restored law and order in Necromunda, and that we should all be grateful and obedient to Lord Helmawr.

Well, good for them. I’m sure they are very proud of themselves. I’m sure they are celebrating with donuts and coffee in their shiny headquarters. I’m sure they are patting each other on the back and giving each other medals and promotions.

But don’t get too comfortable, scummers. Don’t get too complacent. Don’t get too hopeful. Because this peace won’t last for long. This peace is just a temporary lull in the storm. This peace is just a calm before the chaos.

You see, scummers, the Underhive is a complex and dynamic place. It’s a place where gangs, nomads, scavengers, traders, hackers, entertainers, and many others coexist and compete. It’s a place where alliances are formed and broken, where wars are waged and settled, where secrets are kept and revealed. It’s a place where nothing stays the same for long.

The House Van Saar gang may be gone for now, but they will be replaced by another gang soon enough. Maybe it will be another House Van Saar gang, maybe it will be a different house gang, maybe it will be a new and unknown gang. Maybe it will be worse than the previous gang, maybe it will be better. Maybe it will be friendly to us, maybe it will be hostile.

The point is, scummers, we can never predict what will happen next in the Underhive. We can never relax or let our guard down. We can never trust or rely on anyone but ourselves. We can never expect anything but trouble and danger.

So enjoy the peace while it lasts, scummers. Enjoy the quiet and the calm. Enjoy the safety and the security. Enjoy the freedom and the opportunity.

But don’t forget to prepare for the worst, scummers. Don’t forget to arm yourselves and protect yourselves. Don’t forget to watch your backs and cover your tracks. Don’t forget to survive and thrive.

Because you never know when the next storm will hit.

  • Rico Storm was a former scavenger who lived in the Badlands, a barren and hostile area outside the hive city. He found an old typewriter in the wreckage and started writing stories and poems. He moved to the Underhive where he joined the Dust Wall Journal, a humorous and satirical newspaper that mocks the Underhive’s culture and politics. He was a witty and clever columnist who wrote with sarcasm and humor. He enjoyed his job and had a loyal fan base, but he also had a secret ambition: to write serious and investigative journalism. He wanted to expose the corruption and injustice in the Underhive, and to make a difference with his words. He applied for a job at The Drake Chronicle, a new and independent newspaper that aimed to be the voice of the Underhive. He impressed the editor with his writing skills and his passion and was hired as a senior reporter. He left the Dust Wall Journal with mixed feelings, but he was excited for his new challenge. He hoped to make The Drake Chronicle the best newspaper in the Underhive, and to earn the respect and trust of his readers.
