The Arachnateks received a missive from their shadowy Patron informing them that They had gained data about an ancient vault deep in the bowls of the hive city, the vault was undisturbed and the Arachnateks were instructed to gain access to the vault, and its treasures, at all costs.
As the Arachnateks approached the area, Ulric realised that the vault was still sealed with no easy way in. Luckily a mining automaton, of curious design, lay nearby and could be re-programmed to smash its way into the vault. Boe zipped forwards on her grav cutter and began to re-wire the ancient machine However, as she did so bullets whipped over her head, the Archnateks were not the only one seeking the treasure of the vault a patrol of Palanite Enforcers had arrived.
Over the next few minutes, as the automaton groaned to life and began to rumble its way towards the vault, a vicious fire fight erupted. Boe taking down Patrolman Beckett, Ulric critically injuring Rookie Nolan and one of the Arachnatek wannabes proving their worth, taking down patrolman Hudson.
Whilst the initial firefight appeared to being going the way of the Arachnateks it was clear that the enforcers had seized the access route to the vault, and whilst the ‘teks might get in, they would certainly never get out.
As Ulric laydown covering fire for Boe, goading the lumbering robot onwards, he received an encoded message over his private vox network, one he had to triple confirm before being convinced of its validity.
Using a vox code embedded in the message he had received Ulric opened a private link to the Palanite Captain. His Patron had made the Enforcers an offer, look the other way and they would find a significant number of untraceable credits deposited into their private accounts. A short moment later the whine of stub gun fire ceased, and the Enforcers retreated from the area, leaving the Arachnateks to claim their master’s prize.
Through his network of agents Ulric later learned that a shiny new Automata had joined the captains crew, purchased after the captain had apparently had some luck at the gambling tables. Conversely it appeared that the rookie, injured by Ulric, had not survived his trip to the Doc’s. This was surely down the severity of his injuries, rather than any protests the principled newbie might have voiced in regard to the taking of bribes.
