The Man in the High Spire: How a Delaque Mastermind Outwitted the Enforcers

04/12/44,265 ·

‘Dammit, Those spooky Lanky Bastards are up to it again, I just know it’ Growled Captain Danville from her medicae bed in the Precinct infirmary.

The information the Adjustment Administorum had provided the precinct had been dead on, and the precinct had been foiling the schemes of many of the local upstart gangs because of it. There had even been the bust of several smuggling rackets in the area stemming the flow of some frighteningly pure Ghast some months earlier.

A smile returned to Captain Danvilles lips, little did the Delaque know that the sale of said Ghast was funding the very precinct that would be there downfall.

Now the latest intel had servo skull surveillance images of the Delaque at a meeting in the East market with suspected smugglers that they had conveniently not provided any information about.

With a rising growl of frustration the data slate exploded into a shower of constituent part and shattered crys as Danville bellowed for the Medicae attendant ‘Bring me Boothe now’.

Within the hour the entire precinct had been gathered, briefed, equipped and were on there way to impose upon the Adjuatment Ministorum that liberties were not to be taken with the Drake Watch Precinct.

Looking down from his vantage point high on the side of the thermal interchange the Man in the high Spire studied the feed from a number of servo skulls that had caught his attention. What were they upto? The enforcers had deployed in force and were making a warp spawned racket in the process, yet Danville was due to be laid up for several more days at least. He glanced down into the crowded streets of the sector and almost fancied he could see the commotion caused by the rapid deployment of the enforcers. But wait, they were heading almost directly towards cell epsilon septimus. Deau Irae was there training the latest edition to the Administorum, a second nacht ghul this one having an unhealthy attachment to an escher blessed blade, making a note he would have the handle and hilt inspected for addictive stim deployment, he wouldn’t put it past the Escher to try and collect a captive client base in such unorthodox ways.

Activating his vox transponder he signaled the warning to the cell and hoped that they would have time to slip the heavily armed, and belligerent noose that closed about them.

Deploying aggressively from the Precinct transports the Enforcers drew up in squads that covered all advances out of the hidden bolt hole that some of the delaque had been seen entering earlier today. Bolt guns were trained to catch anyone daring to leave the area in a deadly crossfire. The enforcers heavily armed Automaton ED-209 began it’s march directly down the main throughfare towards the know location of the concealed entrance.

Call off, by the numbers, Boothe ordered as he started his men moving forward, one pair covering another as they advanced, trigger discipline tight as each hulking officer hugged cover whilst maximizing his fire arc. The squads all reported in one after the other until they got to the squads on the west flank. Come in Squad Epsilon, Dammit, answer you clowns. Suddenly the comm line burst in a squeal of feedback into the screaming voice of Voight, I repeat, they are already behind us an making a break for it on the western flank, I have two men down already.

Sergent another call came over the vox, movement on the east reported the Enforcer Carter who had infiltrated along the expected escape route. The Bark of his boltgun opening up temporarily drowned his voice over the com before he reported a hostile was down. Before he could finish relaying what he had seen on the flank he started to scream as if the warp itself had conjured his nightmare to life.

It was at this time that the snipers duel broke out over head with shots cracking off of nearby cover until, with a fountain of blood gushing from his shoulder Gibbs went down behind cover.

With a Growl Danville herself would be proud of Boothe ordered the redeployment of his troops, Medics advancing to aid the fallen behind the cover of vigilus pattern assault shields, the covering squads moving up and firing in tandem to provide a constant stream of covering fire. Delta squad was dispatched to cover the western flank just as the lights suddenly went down. When he got his hands on these sneaky bastards they were going to pay.

ED-209’s running lights illuminated the narrow corridors ahead and glimpses of Delaque fleeing from cover to cover could be seen. The point they seemed desperate to hold, suddenly abandoned, though what the significance of this was beyond the cogitator of the construct to comprehend. As the lights flickered back on most of the Enforcers were now back on there feet whilst the delaque caught in the open were reduced to bloody ruin through the righteous and proper application of bolt shell. Delta squad reported that a number of the delaque had already escaped to the west whilst the few remaining Delaque ahead melted back into the shadows before the squads of enforcers could back them against the wall, even the blood trails from the wounded seem to vanish inexplicably.

Boothe sighed, Captain Danville was not going to be impressed.

From his vantage point the man in the high tower looked on in satisfaction as surveilling servo skull relayed the action as his gang both fought itself out of the trap and escaped into cunningly hidden passages to escape the otherwise perfectly laid ambush. Captain Danville would require more carful observance. He has taken her for granted so far and it had very nearly cost him, no more.

Switching the channel the face of a well dressed guildsman was caught in a state of shock. Rement the IVth of the Nautican Syphoning Guild cleared his throat and sputtered, well, I guess that answers that. Please forgive the guilds doubt in your abilities I think you have adequately proved your abilities here and we would like to proceed with negotiations. Our delegation will be with you shortly. The man in the high tower simply nodded and killed the feed. The opportunities offered by working with the water guild could be lucrative but they were well resourced themselves and would bear careful observance.
